What happens if you have a sudden illness or an accident and are unable to practice? Have you thought about retiring? Considering questions like these now will save you, your patients, and your family from difficult and painful situations down the line.

While most psychiatrists anticipate retiring "some day",  many don't make plans ahead of time for the eventual closing of their practices. Sometimes this means they must work longer than desired to allow adequate time for practice closure. Under more tragic circumstances, such as the doctor's sudden death or disability, it means that staff or family members are left to the task without guidance - adding an extra burden to those already grieving and putting patients at risk. During this program, we will discuss ways in which to properly close your medical practice- both upon retirement and in the event of an emergency - lessening the stress to you, your family, your staff, and your patients.

At the conclusion of this program, attendees will be able to:

  1. Identify steps necessary to close down their medical practice upon retirement.
  2. Describe the appropriate procedure for terminating the physician-patient relationship.
  3. Develop an emergency plan for the closure of their practice by others.
